We moved! (Revlon Face Products update)

Over the last month, we left Austin and traveled for over 2 weeks to Washington DC. Right now, we are still waiting to move into our new apartment, which makes receiving samples really difficult. Some of the samples sent to me are stuck at our old address – we need a new address to be able to forward them.

Of all the samples, I was most excited about the Revlon Face Products. In the sample, I would receive a:

  • PhotoReady Brightening Primer
  • PhotoReady Pore Reducing Primer
  • 1 sample of Revlon Insta-Blush
  • 1 sample of 4-in-1 Blending Sponge

With the review deadline coming up, I feel really sad that I’m not able to receive the products in time. I’ve been really excited seeing other samplers posting and reviewing online though. Here are some of my favorites!

Can’t wait to try them out!

REVIEW – Simply Summer’s Eve Cleansing Cloths and Foaming Wash

IMG_20170705_200659_353

I received Simply Summer’s Eve Cleansing Clothes and Foaming Wash (Mandarin Blossom) free from Crowdtap for review purposes.

I was honestly hesitant to apply for this sample as I have never used any feminine hygiene care products before, but after trying these products, I’m really glad I did. They were surprising useful and great to use.

The new Simply range comes in two different scents – Mandarin Blossom and Coconut Water. I have not tried the coconut water, but I have to say the mandarin blossom smells amazing.

The range also comes in two forms – foaming wash and cleansing cloths. The cleansing cloths also comes in a wetwipe-like packet, as well as individually packed. The foaming wash is awesome for leaving in the bathroom for daily use, but my favorite form is definitely the one in individual packs. They are so easy to travel around with, whether you put them in your pouch or wallet, and they are awesome for travel vacations or long days out, like a hiking trip which I use it on.

The products help to balance your HP and contains no harsh chemicals, it’s really gentle on the skin while leaving your refreshed very quickly. I love these products and would recommend you guys to try it!

REVIEW – Elizavecca 10type Facial Masks

2017-06-15_15.57.07.jpg

I got to try out the Elizavecca 10type Facial Masks, which I got free from 0.8L for reviewing purposes.

First, I love the packaging of the Elizavecca 10type masks – they are colorful and appealing! The only thing is that there are very little English description on the packaging and I had to search the Internet for what each mask does.

Here is the description I copied from Amazon:

  1. EGF Deep Power Pack Ringer mask: wrinkle Functional – skin nutrition, anti-wrinkle, moisturizing skin and skin elasticity
  2. Milk Ringer mask Deep Power Pack : skin radiance, skin moisturization, yusubun balance, soothing
  3. Vita Deep Power Pack Ringer mask: enhanced water, skin nutrition, skin radiance, skin supple
  4. Centella Asian Tikka Deep Power Pack mask : soothing, moisturizing, skin lifting, skin elasticity
  5. Deep Power aqua Ringer mask pack [whitening functional] : Intensive Moisture, skin moisture, skin whitening, skin elasticity
  6. Deep Power Collagen Mask Pack Ringer [wrinkle Functional] : yungwang skin, anti-wrinkle, moisturizing, skin elasticity
  7. Tea Tree Deep Power Pack Ringer mask : soothing, yungwang skin, skin moisturizing and skin nourishment Greener Power
  8. cheudip Ringer facial mask : clean the skin, the skin determines the money, pores Care
  9. Honey Deep Power ringer mask pack [wrinkle Functional] : skin nutrition, skin radiance, skin supple, wrinkle improvement
  10. Red Ginseng Mask Pack Deep tower [anti-wrinkle, whitening dual functionality] : skin nutrition, skin vitality, improved whitening wrinkles, skin yungwang

Given the short time frame, I’ve only tried out 4 masks – the Vital Deep, Fruits Deep, Asian Tikka and Red Ginseng. The masks were thinner than others I’ve tried, they adhere well to the face nevertheless. I felt that the shape of the mask could be better, but overall each mask I’ve tried really made my skin become more radiant and hydrated for days, and that actually made it hard for me to finish using them so quickly. Both the Fruits Deep and Asian Tikka smell heavenly, but the Fruits Deep was a little watery and got messy during application.

Overall, I found them very effective – I would totally recommend these to anyone looking for affordable (only $12!) facials that actually works. Big thumbs up, can’t wait to use the other 6 I have! Check them out here!

REVIEW – Snapple Straightup Tea Comes in 5 Flavors!

IMG_20170603_180430_944

I received coupons from Smiley360 to redeem these 2 bottles of Snapple Straightup Tea for testing and review!

Snapple’s new Straightup Tea comes in 5 different flavors – sweet, sorta sweet, unsweetened, rooibos and honey green. Maybe because the product was new, I had a hard time finding it at Target. The first Target I went to didn’t have it. I only visited the second Target after I checked that the product was available at the store online, but when I got there, the Straightup Teas weren’t on the shelves – they were on a display rack in the middle of all the cashiers. It took me a long time to find them.

Even though the bottled tea comes in 5 flavors, only sweet, sorta sweet and unsweetened were available. We decided to pick up the sorta sweet and unsweetened for our hiking trip the next day, but I would definitely have preferred the honey green if they were available.

Overall, Straightup Teas from Snapple are really refreshing on a hot day and I love that they come in different sweetness levels to cater for different consumers. I felt that the unsweetened one tastes really good but just a tad sour, and the sorta sweet has just the right amount of sweetness in it. I would definitely others to try these!

o.b. Original Super Tampons

IMG_20170525_171340_540.jpg

I received a box of o.b. Original Super Tampons free from Smiley360 and I wanted to write a short review on it.

I am not big on tampons but I like the packaging of this o.b. Orginal Super Tampons – it comes in a calming blue box and it’s discrete enough. I particularly like that it’s waste-free since it does not come with an applicator, but I find that it’s not too convenient to bring around as they can get dirty easily. It’s pretty okay to use without the applicator, so I feel like it’s still an effective product.

REVIEW L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

IMG_20170521_160049_602

For this blog post, I received a L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara from BzzAgent in exchange for my honest review. This is the first makeup product that I’ve received and I’m really psyched about it! 🙂

I love makeup but on an everyday basis, I like to go for a simple natural look, which includes using a primer (+sunscreen), foundation, a brow kit, lip stick, blush and of course, a mascara.

With L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

I tried the mascara for the last two days and so far, I really love it! This mascara is great for everyday wear – it gives excellent length but I wish it could give my lashes more volume. I felt that it was easy to build on, but it did leave some clumps at times which could be easily removed. Overall, it made my eyes pop and my lashes looked natural! It is waterproof too – I wore it all day in a humid weather, but it did not smudge at all. I am really impressed at how good this mascara is, given its low price.

I would totally buy it in the future and I recommend it to others too! You can get it on Amazon for $8.99 here.

REVIEW – Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant in Cool Waterlily

IMG_20170511_121026_469.jpg

For this blog post, I received a sample size Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant in Cool Waterlily from Crowdtap in exchange for my honest opinion.

Before going into anything, I would love it if you guys check out my instagram (@mrsk_chronicles)! Follow me if you would like, no pressure! 🙂

To be honest, I’ve only learned of Secret last summer when I was visiting from Australia and a friend who used to live in US asked me to buy a couple Secret deordorants for her. That was when I first tried their Oh So Summerberry scent.

Secret has 11 scents in their Fresh collection and they come in both invisible solid and clear gel. Even though the deordorant was a small 0.5oz sample, I like that it’s small and easy to travel with. I could easily bring it to the gym with me. They sell the full size 2.6oz deordorant for $4.97 in stores.

So I’ve tried the deodorant out for a full day yesterday, here are my thoughts:

  • It is invisible upon application, that’s always good!
  • It smells wonderful – fresh and floral, but not overwhelming. The smell is way lighter than a perfume.
  • It kept me smelling good all day! After a day in the sun, the scent was no longer strong, but there was still a very subtle hint of Cool Waterlily (yes, I smelled my underarms).
  • I can’t say if it’s a antiperspirant – I still sweated, but it did feel like it reduced the wetness.

I compared it to Lady Speed Stick, which I’ve used since I was a teenager. Both brands are very similar, and Lady Speed Stick is available in many countries. After trying two different Secret deordorants, I honestly think I like Secret better now.  I can’t remember a time when the scent of a Lady Speed Stick actually stuck with me till the end of the day.

For those wanting to try the Secret new Fresh Collection, please do! I’ve only received a sample size of the Cool Waterlily in invisible solid to review, I do wish they sent both a invisible solid and a clear gel so I could compare them.

The Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake

IMG_20170507_200037_908
A view from Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk Trail

We moved to Austin, Texas last August, but I officially moved here in March. At that time, I was still finishing up my studies in Australia. Even though we’ve been living here for a while and we see the lake whenever we drive on I-35, we are quite embarassed to say we haven’t been to the Lady Bird Lake.

Yesterday, we decided to go for a walk at the Lady Bird Lake boardwalk. Parking was surprisingly easy and free along S. Lakeshore Blvd, we parked right next to HI Austin Hostel. We really enjoyed that walk – it was peaceful and quiet, and we got to see the skyline of the city. There were quite a few active walkers, joggers and cyclists, as well as other casual walkers like us, but the path was wide enough for everyone. There were also people out on the water kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding. The scenery was really beautiful overall.

We are quite excited to bring our bikes the next time and explore the whole Hike-and-Bike trail.

REVIEW – Dunkin’ Donuts Chocolate Coffee Creamer

IMG_20170503_195810_372
Picked up a bottle of Dunkin’ Donuts creamer from the store!

As you know, Crowdtap sends you free samples to try and review. For this blog post, I received a bottle of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer in exchange for my honest opinion.

Mr K and I are huge coffee drinkers but we aren’t too big on full coffee creamers. I usually use skim milk or half and half, and Mr K drinks black coffee unless he’s in a rush and adds milk to cool it down. It’s been a while since we had full cream in our coffee, which was why we decided to give Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer a go.

Coupons!

Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer comes in six flavors: Original, Extra Extra, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Caramel and Chocolate, and they come in 32oz bottles with a nice easy-to-open flip top.  When we went to the store earlier this week, Dunkin’ Donuts creamers were easily recognizable at the milk section from their signature orange color. First impression: the bottle is HUGE!

We finally decided to try the chocolate flavor as I usually order mocha at cafes and let’s not judge Mr K, but he often throws a cube of chocolate into his coffee in the morning. That is to say, we both like chocolate in our coffee.

What I later noticed was the word New on the bottle of the chocolate creamer but not on the others, so I did a little digging around. Apparently, Dunkin’ Donuts first introduced their coffee creamers in 2014 and later added three more flavors (Caramel, Hazelnut and Vanilla) in 2015 as you can read from the press release here. What I did not find was a press release on the chocolate flavored creamer, so I’m guessing they later added this to their range of flavors (correct me if I’m wrong).

On to the tasting!

Anyway, on to the tasting – Mr K and I have been enhancing morning coffees with the Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer the last few mornings. Here are our thoughts:

A post shared by Mrs K (@mrsk_chronicles) on May 7, 2017 at 8:39am PDT

It’s creamy, it’s yummy and it’s not too sweet. The chocolate flavor did taste a little artificial to me at times, but it was very very tasty. Each serving (1 tbsp/about 15ml) is only 35 calories, which is comparable to store-brand half and half (16 calories/tbsp) but it has quite a bit more calories than skim milk (6 calories/tbsp). Let’s be honest though, one tablespoon of any type of milk or cream is probably not enough for one cup of coffee – so the calories can stack up.

A bottle of Dunkin’ Donut creamer costs $2.96 at the store, which I would say is very reasonable for such a big bottle. On the bottle, it says that it is best used within seven days after opening. That would be my only concern as for a couple like us, it is hard for us to go through such a big bottle in a week.

Overall, I can’t be absolutely sure that we will continue to buy Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer, only because we are not big creamer people to start with and it is hard for us to finish such a big bottle each week. However, adding Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer to your coffee sure makes your coffee extra creamy and extra yummy. It easily beats adding just a cube of chocolate into your coffee, like Mr K does (again, not judging :P). For those who are considering giving Dunkin’ Donuts coffee creamer, I would say yes, go ahead!

NEW Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion Sunscreen Review

2017-05-03_12.08.13.jpg
Got my Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen lotion on as I went for a run!

From my previous post, you know that I am new to Crowdtap and Crowdtap sends you free product samples to try and review.

The new Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30, 1.7 Ounce was the very first sample I received just three days ago! To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much, I assumed that most brands would send you samples that come in tiny foil packets that look like this:

PoqD68v

You could tell how pleasantly surprised I was when Crowdtap and Hawaiian Tropic sent me a box with a full size sample, like that:

IMG_20170502_122109_094
Yay to full size samples!

Before I go into my review, I need to say that this product is extremely relevant to me. I go through bottles and bottles of sunscreen because I use them every single day. I preach about the importance of sunscreen use to friends and family too. To me, the three main reasons why I use sunscreens are:

  1. It prevents premature ageing of skin, i.e. wrinkles.
  2. It helps prevent the development of skin cancer.
  3. It prevents freckles and early age spots.

I have used many brands of sunscreens. Currently, I only have these with me. I have also tried a few brands which I didn’t like and had to give them away.

2017-05-03_12.07.03

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30, 1.7 Ounce comes in a pump bottle and it is small enough to travel with. My first impressions were that I love the packaging and the keywords (“weightless”, “feels as if it’s barely on”, “won’t clog pores”) are exactly things I look for in a sunscreen for daily use. SPF 30 is also just right for daily use too, I wouldn’t use a sunscreen under SPF 30.

Heading out with my Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen on!

I have tried Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen for my usual all-day use under my foundation and on its own when I went for a run. Here is what I think –

After three days of use, I absolutely love it! It smells amazing – like shea butter or coconut milk, and it gives me the summery feels. The lotion is cream-colored and the texture felt really silky. It did feel a little oily at first, but it absorbed really well into my skin and left a matte finishing after a while. I even felt like it evened my skintone out.

As advertised, it felt weightless – I hardly knew it was there (other than the lovely scent). My skin is sometimes prone to breakouts, but I would say this sunscreen doesn’t irritate my skin. My face is still clear after three days of use.

On the product, it says that the sunscreen is a “luxurious, oil free and hypoallergenic formula” that “has an ultra-lightweight texture that feels lighter and smooth on skin leaving a weightless matte finish so your skin can breath”.

I would totally agree with that statement. I can absolutely see myself purchasing this product in the future and would definitely recommend it to others! 🙂

Check out this product on Amazon or Hawaiian Tropic!
