We moved! (Revlon Face Products update)

Over the last month, we left Austin and traveled for over 2 weeks to Washington DC. Right now, we are still waiting to move into our new apartment, which makes receiving samples really difficult. Some of the samples sent to me are stuck at our old address – we need a new address to be able to forward them.

Of all the samples, I was most excited about the Revlon Face Products. In the sample, I would receive a:

  • PhotoReady Brightening Primer
  • PhotoReady Pore Reducing Primer
  • 1 sample of Revlon Insta-Blush
  • 1 sample of 4-in-1 Blending Sponge

With the review deadline coming up, I feel really sad that I’m not able to receive the products in time. I’ve been really excited seeing other samplers posting and reviewing online though. Here are some of my favorites!

Can’t wait to try them out!

REVIEW – Simply Summer’s Eve Cleansing Cloths and Foaming Wash

IMG_20170705_200659_353

I received Simply Summer’s Eve Cleansing Clothes and Foaming Wash (Mandarin Blossom) free from Crowdtap for review purposes.

I was honestly hesitant to apply for this sample as I have never used any feminine hygiene care products before, but after trying these products, I’m really glad I did. They were surprising useful and great to use.

The new Simply range comes in two different scents – Mandarin Blossom and Coconut Water. I have not tried the coconut water, but I have to say the mandarin blossom smells amazing.

The range also comes in two forms – foaming wash and cleansing cloths. The cleansing cloths also comes in a wetwipe-like packet, as well as individually packed. The foaming wash is awesome for leaving in the bathroom for daily use, but my favorite form is definitely the one in individual packs. They are so easy to travel around with, whether you put them in your pouch or wallet, and they are awesome for travel vacations or long days out, like a hiking trip which I use it on.

The products help to balance your HP and contains no harsh chemicals, it’s really gentle on the skin while leaving your refreshed very quickly. I love these products and would recommend you guys to try it!

REVIEW – Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant in Cool Waterlily

IMG_20170511_121026_469.jpg

For this blog post, I received a sample size Secret Fresh Collection Deodorant in Cool Waterlily from Crowdtap in exchange for my honest opinion.

Before going into anything, I would love it if you guys check out my instagram (@mrsk_chronicles)! Follow me if you would like, no pressure! 🙂

To be honest, I’ve only learned of Secret last summer when I was visiting from Australia and a friend who used to live in US asked me to buy a couple Secret deordorants for her. That was when I first tried their Oh So Summerberry scent.

Secret has 11 scents in their Fresh collection and they come in both invisible solid and clear gel. Even though the deordorant was a small 0.5oz sample, I like that it’s small and easy to travel with. I could easily bring it to the gym with me. They sell the full size 2.6oz deordorant for $4.97 in stores.

So I’ve tried the deodorant out for a full day yesterday, here are my thoughts:

  • It is invisible upon application, that’s always good!
  • It smells wonderful – fresh and floral, but not overwhelming. The smell is way lighter than a perfume.
  • It kept me smelling good all day! After a day in the sun, the scent was no longer strong, but there was still a very subtle hint of Cool Waterlily (yes, I smelled my underarms).
  • I can’t say if it’s a antiperspirant – I still sweated, but it did feel like it reduced the wetness.

I compared it to Lady Speed Stick, which I’ve used since I was a teenager. Both brands are very similar, and Lady Speed Stick is available in many countries. After trying two different Secret deordorants, I honestly think I like Secret better now.  I can’t remember a time when the scent of a Lady Speed Stick actually stuck with me till the end of the day.

For those wanting to try the Secret new Fresh Collection, please do! I’ve only received a sample size of the Cool Waterlily in invisible solid to review, I do wish they sent both a invisible solid and a clear gel so I could compare them.

REVIEW – Dunkin’ Donuts Chocolate Coffee Creamer

IMG_20170503_195810_372
Picked up a bottle of Dunkin’ Donuts creamer from the store!

As you know, Crowdtap sends you free samples to try and review. For this blog post, I received a bottle of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer in exchange for my honest opinion.

Mr K and I are huge coffee drinkers but we aren’t too big on full coffee creamers. I usually use skim milk or half and half, and Mr K drinks black coffee unless he’s in a rush and adds milk to cool it down. It’s been a while since we had full cream in our coffee, which was why we decided to give Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer a go.

Coupons!

Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Creamer comes in six flavors: Original, Extra Extra, Vanilla, Hazelnut, Caramel and Chocolate, and they come in 32oz bottles with a nice easy-to-open flip top.  When we went to the store earlier this week, Dunkin’ Donuts creamers were easily recognizable at the milk section from their signature orange color. First impression: the bottle is HUGE!

We finally decided to try the chocolate flavor as I usually order mocha at cafes and let’s not judge Mr K, but he often throws a cube of chocolate into his coffee in the morning. That is to say, we both like chocolate in our coffee.

What I later noticed was the word New on the bottle of the chocolate creamer but not on the others, so I did a little digging around. Apparently, Dunkin’ Donuts first introduced their coffee creamers in 2014 and later added three more flavors (Caramel, Hazelnut and Vanilla) in 2015 as you can read from the press release here. What I did not find was a press release on the chocolate flavored creamer, so I’m guessing they later added this to their range of flavors (correct me if I’m wrong).

Jpeg
On to the tasting!

Anyway, on to the tasting – Mr K and I have been enhancing morning coffees with the Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer the last few mornings. Here are our thoughts:

A post shared by Mrs K (@mrsk_chronicles) on May 7, 2017 at 8:39am PDT

It’s creamy, it’s yummy and it’s not too sweet. The chocolate flavor did taste a little artificial to me at times, but it was very very tasty. Each serving (1 tbsp/about 15ml) is only 35 calories, which is comparable to store-brand half and half (16 calories/tbsp) but it has quite a bit more calories than skim milk (6 calories/tbsp). Let’s be honest though, one tablespoon of any type of milk or cream is probably not enough for one cup of coffee – so the calories can stack up.

A bottle of Dunkin’ Donut creamer costs $2.96 at the store, which I would say is very reasonable for such a big bottle. On the bottle, it says that it is best used within seven days after opening. That would be my only concern as for a couple like us, it is hard for us to go through such a big bottle in a week.

Overall, I can’t be absolutely sure that we will continue to buy Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer, only because we are not big creamer people to start with and it is hard for us to finish such a big bottle each week. However, adding Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate creamer to your coffee sure makes your coffee extra creamy and extra yummy. It easily beats adding just a cube of chocolate into your coffee, like Mr K does (again, not judging :P). For those who are considering giving Dunkin’ Donuts coffee creamer, I would say yes, go ahead!

NEW Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion Sunscreen Review

2017-05-03_12.08.13.jpg
Got my Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen lotion on as I went for a run!

From my previous post, you know that I am new to Crowdtap and Crowdtap sends you free product samples to try and review.

The new Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30, 1.7 Ounce was the very first sample I received just three days ago! To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much, I assumed that most brands would send you samples that come in tiny foil packets that look like this:

PoqD68v

You could tell how pleasantly surprised I was when Crowdtap and Hawaiian Tropic sent me a box with a full size sample, like that:

Yay to full size samples!

Before I go into my review, I need to say that this product is extremely relevant to me. I go through bottles and bottles of sunscreen because I use them every single day. I preach about the importance of sunscreen use to friends and family too. To me, the three main reasons why I use sunscreens are:

  1. It prevents premature ageing of skin, i.e. wrinkles.
  2. It helps prevent the development of skin cancer.
  3. It prevents freckles and early age spots.

I have used many brands of sunscreens. Currently, I only have these with me. I have also tried a few brands which I didn’t like and had to give them away.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30, 1.7 Ounce comes in a pump bottle and it is small enough to travel with. My first impressions were that I love the packaging and the keywords (“weightless”, “feels as if it’s barely on”, “won’t clog pores”) are exactly things I look for in a sunscreen for daily use. SPF 30 is also just right for daily use too, I wouldn’t use a sunscreen under SPF 30.

Heading out with my Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen on!

I have tried Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen for my usual all-day use under my foundation and on its own when I went for a run. Here is what I think –

After three days of use, I absolutely love it! It smells amazing – like shea butter or coconut milk, and it gives me the summery feels. The lotion is cream-colored and the texture felt really silky. It did feel a little oily at first, but it absorbed really well into my skin and left a matte finishing after a while. I even felt like it evened my skintone out.

As advertised, it felt weightless – I hardly knew it was there (other than the lovely scent). My skin is sometimes prone to breakouts, but I would say this sunscreen doesn’t irritate my skin. My face is still clear after three days of use.

On the product, it says that the sunscreen is a “luxurious, oil free and hypoallergenic formula” that “has an ultra-lightweight texture that feels lighter and smooth on skin leaving a weightless matte finish so your skin can breath”.

I would totally agree with that statement. I can absolutely see myself purchasing this product in the future and would definitely recommend it to others! 🙂

Check out this product on Amazon or Hawaiian Tropic!

Crowdtap Review: fastest way to receive a giftcard

As I am (f)unemployed till August, I have been consistently looking for legitimate online gigs that would reward me with money, gift cards or free samples. Here is my experience with Crowdtap, thus far.

I chanced upon Crowdtap via a Reddit post and decided to give it a try. My first impression of the site was that it was clean and easy to navigate. I accessed Crowdtap from my laptop, but it felt like I was using an app on my phone.

crowdtap

It did take me a while to figure out what Crowdtap really was. Crowdtap is a word-of-mouth marketing (WOMW) website that rewards users for creating and sharing content about products, and even sample new products and share your feedback.

Things to note when you first join:

  1. The circle you see on the top right hand corner is the PrizeWheel. You earn points for every mission you complete, and once you reach the targeted point, you are rewarded. For the first 2 rounds, I had to reach 500 points for each $5 Amazon Giftcard, but after, it was increased to 1000 points.
  2. Before you start, you will be asked a bunch of questions and be recommended to follow brands that you like. As you can see above, I followed 27 brands under ‘My Brands’. These are the brands that will pop out on your homepage, you will still be able to complete tasks by other brands you don’t follow.

When you reach 500 points, this is the email you will receive. Following that, you will receive another email on how to redeem your Amazon giftcard.

crowdtap2

Crowdtap’s missions come in the form of a:

  • Poll: short and easy questions usually worth 2 points
  • Questionnaire: usually a series of poll questions
  • Text mission: You are usually given a idea or topic and asked to feedback on it
  • Content mission: There would usually be an external link to a content for you look at, then provide your feedback on it.
  • Discussion: According to Crowdtap, it is a panel of interactive questions where you have conversations on, but I have not personally seen any discussion tasks yet.
  • Sample: This is where you can apply to samples to be sent to you. You would usually need to complete an onboarding task and your application needs to be approved before you are shipped the sample. You will be asked to complete several review tasks after you receive the sample.

Pros:

  • For starters, it is a very quick way to receive Amazon giftcards. I spent a few hours to reach the first two rounds of 500 points.
  • The website is simple and easy to navigate.
  • The missions are mostly simple too – they involve answering polls and drafting responses to prompts.
  • Unlike other survey websites, Crowdtap allows multiple members from the same household to join – I am thinking of getting Mr K to join too.
  • One of the best things about Crowdtap is that you can apply for samples to be shipped to you. I have two samples on the way, don’t forget to subcribe to my blog to read how you can receive samples too!

Cons:

  • After the first 2 rounds, you will have to reach 1000 points, instead of 500 points to receive your reward.
  • Over time, it gets harder to accumulate points. It takes time for new missions to pop out, so you won’t be able to continue earning points in one sitting.
  • Some missions will require you to post photos of yourself. If you are uncomfortable with sharing your private life, these missions will not be suitable for you.

Mrs K’s tips:

  • You will need to connect Crowdtap to your Facebook account to receive the giftcard.
  • There is no need to check in everyday as it takes time for new missions to pop up. I usually check in once every few days.
  • Other than polls which are really quick and easy to complete, I tend to avoid missions (especially, questionnaires) that are worth only 2 points. They take up too much time and aren’t worth the points.

Overall, Crowdtap is obviously not something you can get a lot out of, but it is a good website to spend some free time on every once in a while and get rewarded for it. Even better, you can score quite a few free samples to try out at home!
